The Winnipeg Jets and Mason Appleton avoid arbitration by agreeing on a 3 year, $6,500,000 contract.

After being re-acquired by the Winnipeg Jets at this year's trade deadline, Mason Appleton was clearly a valued piece of the Jets third line. Appleton was selected by the Seattle Kraken in the expansion draft, and was traded back to the Jets near after playing most of the season with Seattle.

Appleton is coming off of an 8 goal, 21 point campaign in 68 games. The former 6th round pick by the Jets has clearly been valued as an effective two-way winger in the Jets bottom six.

Appletons new contract will see him earn $2,000,000 in his first year, and $2,500,000 in each of his final two year. This may seem a bit pricey, but the Jets have bought Appletons first years of UFA eligibility.

The Wisconsin native has proven to be a positive asset, and this is a pretty easily-moveable contract, should the Jets decide that they are looking towards tearing some things down. I see Appleton fitting well under Rick Bowness, and potentially lining up with Morgan Barron and David Gustafsson, who remains as the Jets final unsigned player. The Jets come out of this deal with close to $6,000,000 in cap space remaining, which gives them some room to add some more pieces if they choose to.

Upcoming Mailbag

As you may have read in my update yesterday, I am putting together another mailbag. Submit your questions, and Spinorama Hockey will work together to answer all of your questions, and have them out in a week and a half. Lots of time to come up with some questions.

Thank you for the taking the time to enjoy this quick read, what do you expect to see from Appleton this year? What other changes should the Jets make? Leave your thoughts down below, and have a great day!
