The San Jose Sharks announced yesterday that defenseman Nikolai Knyzhov will be out six months after undergoing surgery for a torn Achilles tendon.

It’s disappointing news for Knyzhov, who was injured for the entire 2021-22 season. The now 24-year-old defenseman had played with the Sharks as a rookie in the 2020-21 season, performing well in a limited role.

In other news, the Sharks also announced additions to their coaching staff on Friday. Scott Gordon and Ryan Warsofsky have been named as assistant coaches, while Thomas Speer will be the team’s goaltending coach and Nick Gialdini has been named as a video coach.

Gordon and Warsofsky have both recently served as AHL head coaches. Gordon has been the head coach of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms since 2015 (along with a brief stint as the Philadelphia Flyers' interim head coach), while Warsofsky is coming off a Calder Cup win with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves.
