The New York Islanders announced today that they’ve re-signed defensemen Noah Dobson and Alexander Romanov, as well as forward Kieffer Bellows.

Dobson is 22 years old and this past season, he scored 13 goals and 51 points in 80 games. His contract is for three years and carries a $4 million cap hit.

Romanov is the same age and managed 13 points in 79 games with the Montreal Canadiens. His deal is also for three years and will carry a $2.5 million cap hit.

Bellows is 24 years old and scored six goals and 19 points in 45 games, a pace of 11 goals and 35 points per 82 games. His deal is for a single year and is worth $1.2 million.

All three players will remain restricted free agents when their respective contracts expire.

I’ll go more in-depth on the Dobson and Romanov deals, but overall, these contracts come in as expected. Even though none of the deals are long-term, locking up what could be half of the team's top-four group for the next three years at a combined $6.5 million is a win for the Islanders. Of course, it’s also noticeable the deals were announced just after Nazem Kadri signed elsewhere, with the Islanders now sitting with a few million dollars in cap space.

Is adding Nazem Kadri the right move for the Islanders?
