The Panthers prospect tournament wrapped yesterday in North Carolina with the kittens going 2-1-0.

Admittedly, I didn’t watch any of the action. I relied on the clips and blurbs that the Panthers and Jameson Olive posted. I’m usually excited for it, but with no “big” name prospects this go around, and due to other obligations, it just wasn’t in the cards for me.

Despite the game three 6-1 thrashing at the hands of the Preds’ prospects, it sounds like it was an overall positive experience for all the Florida rooks.

From the highlights I saw, the Panthers seem to be developing some playmakers with speed and quickness.

For those that watched the games, what did you see? Who were some of the guys that stood out? Anyone of defense noticeable?

Of course the best part about the tournament is when it ends. I don’t mean that with any disrespect. But the reality is that the tournament ending means the regular preseason/season is right around the corner!

Yandle Hangs ‘Em Up

Current ‘Iron Man’ streak holder, Keith Yandle, has announced his retirement from the NHL after 16 seasons. In total, Yandle played 1,109 games where he recorded 103 goals and 516 assists for a total of 619 points across his stops with the Phoenix/Arizona Coyotes, New York Rangers, Florida Panthers and Philadelphia Flyers.

Crazy to think that he put together 989 consecutive games - surpassing Doug Jarvis (964 games). Yandle’s streak ended on March 29, 2022 when he was marked as a healthy scratch by the Flyers.

One of the more “controversial” players in Panthers history not due to his personality, but more so his contract and softer playing style, Yandle’s five years in Florida saw him rank pretty high in Panthers defensemen history:

Hey, congrats on a helluva career!

NHL Burning Questions: Florida Panthers

The Hockey News has its “Three Burning Questions” bit where they ask three questions about a particular team heading into the upcoming season. A couple days ago they did the Panthers and I think it’s worth a read.

Check the article here.

I agreed with pretty much everything except their analysis of Bob in the playoffs. I don’t think he was necessarily outplayed by Vasi, he just didn’t have any defensive/offensive help in front of him. In fact, Bob was the only one who showed up in round two from the Florida side.

What do you all think? Do you agree with what they said?
