Today the Sens Foundation officially relaunched at Loch March Golf Club for the Sens charity golf tourney, with players reporting for medicals tomorrow and on the ice Thursday! With two pre-season games against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday(1pm and 7pm) this city is definitely excited to turn the page on what has happened both off and on the ice over the last five years.

It looks like the elephant in the room, Alex Formenton won't be signed anytime soon. Until the NHL reveals its findings from their investigation, I don't think any Sens fan anticipated Formenton signing by the beginning of training camp. This leaves a battle for two positions at the forward position, left wing on the third line and center on the fourth line. I truly think with the PTO signings last week of Derek Brassard and Michael Dal Colle, along with Tyler Motte to a one year deal, that Sens GM Pierre Dorion must believe there's a good chance Formenton won't be in the lineup at all this season. The Sens' depth was called into question a lot last season with injuries and covid, so Dorion is certainly making sure that doesn't occur again.

Naturally, the other battles at Sens camp will come on the blue line, as head coach DJ Smith has gone on record as saying the best players will play, unlike last year when numerous prospects were sent to Belleville due to being waiver exempt. Can the likes of Erik Branstrom, Lassi Thomson, or JBD crack the top six, or be that 7th defenseman? With the log jam on the blueline, there's also a chance that someone could be traded to a team that realizes after the pre-season that they lack depth on defense. Oh and I refuse to name the defenseman that was called "elite" by DJ Smith last season, as he has no business being in Ottawa. Here's hoping he's waived after the pre-season and if he isn't claimed, sent down to Belleville.

Lastly, I've heard from many Sens fans about the prospect challenge and they were disappointed with the results. To see blowouts in the last two games of 7-2 and 6-3, plus the way the Sens goaltenders struggled, let's hope these players show far better at the main camp.
