Jobs Are Open As Camp Begins

As training camp opens for the Wild there are some interesting battles that will go on for roster spots for opening night.

We know that Kevin Fiala's place in the lineup is open for competition and of course the lead candidate is prized prospect Marco Rossi. However he is not at all guaranteed a roster spot as Bill Guerin made very clear all Summer.

Tyson Jost and free agent signed Sam Steel will also be vying for position with the possibility that one of them jumps to a top six role. The competition is open which creates the best situation for the Wild as a team. Ironically both Jost and Steel are former first round picks from the 2016 draft Jost (10th overall Avalanche) and Steel (30th overall Ducks).

Neither has lived up to their first round billing but change of scenery presents new opportunities for both players and given the Wild cap scenarios it could not come at a better time for both players.

Jordan Greenway and Jon Merrill are expected to miss significant time to start the season which opens the door for others to step up. The Wild have become a much better team of late mainly because the internal competition for ice time is the rule now under the current front office and coaching staff.

Yes most of the roster is locked in but there are key jobs on the line and the next couple of weeks will be critical for some of thw young up and coming Wild prospects to make their mark.
