Thursday's training camp work didn't bring many revelations. The lines were as reported Wednesday. If anything came to light, it was the original deployment of the fourth line as well as the third and fourth defensive pairing. But again, as said yesterday, don't read too much into what we saw today to see Friday and Saturday. The expectation is change will be the constant over camp and likely the first few preseason games. What we see in the final exhibition contest should be a more accurate representation of the path forward - at least to start the season.

I guess if there was "highlight," it was for the love of god, stop banging into Igor Shesterkin. Adam Sykora made the initial contact. Later, it was Jarred Tinordi. Anytime your franchise goalie is bumped, a little lump goes up in your throat. When it's friendly fire, ire is added to that concern, evidenced by Igor's post-incidents reactions. Larry Brooks proposed a red, no-contact jersey, if a repeat incident occurs. might not be a bad idea.

Gallant press conference:

In practice/scrimmages, fourth-line candidates Jimmy Vesey and Dryden Hunt flanked Gustav Rydahl, who is bidding for the spot as fourth-line center. Ryan Reaves worked on a unit with Turner Elson and Patrick Khodorenko. Ryan Carpenter skated between Brennan Othmann and Julien Gauthier. As noted above, don't read that much into the trios, though I agree, it's hard not to draw conclusions from how they lined up on Day One.

The main good news from today is that the Artemi Panarin-Vincent Trocheck-Vitali Kravtsov line was the most impressive trio. Panarin looked to have the jump back in his legs and game that was missing last playoffs. Trocheck needs to immediately build chemistry with Panarin while Kravtsov gets the initial chance to be the off-wing on that duo. Second was that Barclay Goodrow practiced with the final group of the day and didn't show any ill effects from the left ankle injury he suffered in May. He won't scrimmage Friday or Saturday but will play in some pre-season games. If the regular season started today. Goodrow would be able to dress and play.

The third pair defense battle saw Libor Hajek next to Braden Schneider and Zac Jones with Andy Welinski. Rangers twitter handled this well (sarcasm dripping). As noted above, don't overreact to what we saw on Day One. Wait a few more days before doing so.

To repeat some scheduling info. I am out of pocket this Sunday night to Tuesday night for Rosh Hashana. The following week, it's Tuesday late-afternoon to Wednesday evening. Then, the two subsequent weeks, I will be unavailable Sunday night to Tuesday night for the remainder of the Jewish holidays. This info will be posted at the bottom of almost every blog over the next weeks so that everyone remains in the loop.
