Happy Monday Hockey World! With the preseason underway, and the real season just days away now, how great is it to be able to turn on the TV and see our great sport once again?
So what teams are you looking forward to seeing the most?
Here are some of mine…
The Florida Panthers and the Calgary Flames...
These teams are linked together this year and are kind of a rarity going into this season. The Panthers were the best team in hockey last season, and yet have a new coach, and GM Bill Zito further changed the culture based on the concept that its not about winning the regular season. I can’t wait to see what Tkachuk brings…. The Flames, another top team last season, were forced to make major changes and I really want to see Huberdeau and Kadri in the battle of Albertas moving forward...
The Edmonton Oilers…
The Oilers finally have a goalie, and they are coming off the kind of playoffs that matures a team in a huge way. I have a sense that these Oilers will look extremely dangerous and challenge Colorado…
The NY Metro Teams…
All three I grew up hating, but all three are so intriguing right now. The Rangers were my pre-season pick to go to the Cup Final last year and they got pretty close…They are going to only get better…The Islanders, who many are writing off, were the best team in this division from February 1 on...Sorokin will be right there with Shesterkin…And the Devils are way, WAY better than anyone seems to realize. They will challenge and their speed and young talent will make them more than relevant…
The Ottawa Senators…
The Sens did so much in the offseason and added what feels like the prefect complementary parts. I already loved their young core, and they could challenge the Bruins and Leafs for a playoff spot…it has been so many years since I have seen such optimism from Sens fans. And ALL of it is justified.
The Vancouver Canucks…
The Canucks, like the Islanders, owned the end of the season and had the talent to be so much more of a factor than they were last year. I feel Boudreau is the perfect fit and his excitement along with Demko, who I feel emerges as a legit top 10 goalie this season…
And then there are the Leafs…
I still believe they had a great season last year despite a first-round loss to a Tampa team who was the best in the conference and took out the Panthers way easier than they did Toronto…The Leafs however gambled big on letting Campbell go…They are a contender with two question marks in net. Either could work out. Either or both could be a disaster…It will be interesting…
