Preseason Gameday: 9/27/2022 @ Buffalo

In the second game of their six-game pregame schedule, the Philadelphia Flyers will take on the Buffalo Sabres at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo on Tuesday evening. Game time is 7:00 p.m. EDT.

Earlier in the day, the Flyers' non-game group will have a full practice at the FTC in Voorhees. Monday was an off-day in camp after four grueling days to start. On Wednesday, the Flyers will host the Washington Capitals at the Wells Fargo Center.

The Flyers opened the exhibition slate with a 2-1 home win against the Boston Bruins on Saturday. Brothers Noah and Jackson Cates scored for the Flyers, while Felix Sandström and Troy Grosenick spilt the goaltending chores. Morgan Frost and Tyson Foerster assisted on Noah Cates' 5-on-3 power play goal. Egor Zamula and Hayden Hodgson picked up the helpers on Jackson Cates' game-winning deflection goal in the third period. In the final 15 seconds, Frost atoned for an icing with a vital shot-block that killed off the remaining few ticks of the clock.

In Saturday's game, none of the Flyers' most-established veterans with locked-down NHL roster spots -- Kevin Hayes, Cam Atkinson, Travis Konecny, James van Riemsdyk, Scott Laughton, Nic Deslauriers, Ivan Provorov, Tony DeAngelo, Travis Sanheim, Rasmus Ristolainen, Justin Braun, or goalie Carter Hart -- were in the lineup.

Hart (lower body), Atkinson (upper body) and tryout veteran center Artem Anisimov (lower body) are all day-to-day with what are considered minor injuries. They were all held out of Sunday's scrimmages. Atkinson was a full participant in a practice session after the second scrimmage. Hart reportedly would have played on Sunday had it been a regular season gameday rather than a training camp scrimmage. Anisimov's injury appears to have been sustained on a first-period blocked shot in Saturday's game. After briefly leaving the game, he returned and took regular shifts the rest of the way.

The Sabres opened their preseason schedule on Sunday with a 4-3 overtime road win against the Capitals. Buffalo trailed 1-0 at the first intermission. The game tied at 2-2 heading into the third period before the Sabres pushed back from another one-goal deficit to force overtime. Vinnie Hinostroza won the game at 1:15 of sudden death. Dylan Cozens (power play), Tyson Kozak and Jack Quinn (power play) tallied in regulation for the Sabres.
