Late Night Trade and Other Quick Notes

Late last night, the Blackhawks announced they had traded defenseman Riley Stillman to the Vancouver Canucks for toward Jason Dickinson and a 2024 2nd Round pick. Stillman was seen very highly by the Bowman team; however, thanks to injuries he would only play in 52 games last season and never really live up to the hype that he had received. Now Stillman is only 24 and still has time to prove he can be a top defenseman in this league. I think being able to turn him into a depth forward and another 2nd round draft pick is huge. This will also relieve some of the log jam that is this defensive group and give some younger players more opportunities to get some NHL action.

So what will the Hawks be getting out of Dickinson? He is a 27 year old center who has played in 283 career games over 7 seasons with Dallas and Vancouver. He is not going to be a scoring threat has last year he only put up 11 points but will be a solid shut down guy that will be a nice addition to the bottom 6.

Kyle Davidson continues to stock up on draft picks (2023 2 1st, 2 2nd, 2 3rd. 2024 2 1st, 2 2nd, 2 3rd) while making smart moves, which is a breath of fresh air after the last 11 seasons. Expect more moves like this as the season gets going and other teams need to address roster needs.

Quick Notes

~Both Connor Murphy (back) and Jake McCabe (spine) have been cleared for contact

~Coach Richardson hopes Murphy will be able to play opening night

~McCabe will be on the road trip however Coach Richardson says it is unlikely he will play.

~Caleb Jones (Shoulder) likely will miss opening night but hopes he can play some point during the three game road trip.

~Issac Philips was recalled from Rockford Friday morning and this makes more sense given the Stillman Trade

Last Preseason Game

The Hawks take the ice today for one final preseason game as they face the Blues in St. Louis. Puck drop is 2pm after it was moved up so there wouldn’t be any conflicts with the Cardinals Playoff game.

Expect the line up to be almost exactly what we will see Wednesday in Colorado and Mrazek to get the net for the entire game.
