Finally, New Jersey Devils released the 23-man roster!
Devils captain Nico Hischier and prospect Tyce Thompson are on injured reserved after suffering injuries during the preseason. 2022 second overall NHL draft pick Simon Nemec made the roster, but probably for about eight to nine games. According to NJ.com Ryan Novozinsky on Twitter, “If Nemec wasn’t called up now, he likely wouldn’t have been this year, since cap hit for him would be MUCH larger later on. Doing it now gives them max. cap flexibility for LTIR.” Meanwhile, Kevin Bahl will start the season with the Utica Comets of American Hockey League.
Alexander Holtz and Fabian Zetterlund both made the final cut as well as Jesper Boqvist and Andreas Johnsson. But all things will change when Hischier comes back.
