The Carolina Hurricanes announced yesterday that they've signed forward Derek Stepan to a one-year contract, worth $750,000.
Stepan is 32 years old and was attending camp on a professional tryout, though the signing comes as no surprise. He spent last season with the Hurricanes as well, scoring nine goals and 19 points in 58 games, a pace of 13 goals and 27 points per 82 games.
The Hurricanes also announced an updated roster. After Jordan Martinook wasn’t originally listed on the Hurricanes’ opening roster earlier this week, he’s been recalled by the team. Meanwhile, Jamieson Rees and Pyotr Kochetkov (unsurprisingly) have also been sent down to the AHL.
So here’s how the lineup looks, heading into tonight’s home opener against the Columbus Blue Jackets:
Teravainen - Aho - Jarvis
Svechnikov - Kotkaniemi - Necas
Stastny - Staal - Fast
Martinook - Stepan - Kase
Slavin - Burns
Skjei - Pesce
de Haan - Chafield
Andersen
Raanta
Spares: Bear, Coghlan, Noesen
Aside from Max Pacioretty, the Hurricanes are entering the season healthy. The forward group arguably looks more well-rounded than ever and the team will benefit from a ton of defensive depth.
Puck drop tonight is at 7 pm.
