Tonight, will be the second game this season between the Habs and Wings and the last time, the Detroit outfit sailed away with a 3-0 win in what was the Canadiens’ second game of the season. Nearly a month later, the Canadiens’ young blue line got some seasoning and Martin St-Louis’ team is delivering an entertaining brand of hockey which even has fans forgetting that the Habs have lost their last 3-games.
With Josh Anderson suspended for 2 games and Rem Pitlick on waivers, all eyes were on the Canadiens’ practice this morning as it could have been the perfect opportunity for Martin St-Louis to elevate Juraj Slafkovsky in his line-up. The Habs’ first overall pick will be playing in his 10th game tonight and therefore burn the first year of his entry level contract, but all signs point to him doing so still on the 4th line alongside Jake Evans and Joel Armia.
Unsurprisingly, the top line remains unchanged as the Caufield-Suzuki-Dach combo is firing on all cylinders. On the 2nd line, Evgeni Dadonov will be back in the line-up alongside Sean Monahan and Jonathan Drouin while Mike Hoffman is demoted to the 3rd line to take over Anderson’s spot with Dvorak and Gallagher.
Yesterday, Martin St-Louis said that he wanted to see Dadonov have an impact when he would return to the line-up, and we’ll see if the Russian player can deliver tonight after missing the last 4 games. I was honestly hoping to see Juraj Slafkovsky play with Sean Monahan tonight, but it looks like the coach thinks it’s not time yet or he got word from upstairs that Dadonov should still be showcased. He did confirm this morning that he hadn’t asked for a trade and that it was not up to him in any case.
There were rumblings yesterday about Slafkovsky getting some first unit power play time since it did look like he was at practice, but players confirmed in their media availability that the Habs were in fact getting some penalty killing practice time and that it didn’t mean the young Slovak would be on the top power play unit.
On the blue line, Chris Wideman will be the odd man out tonight, with Guhle and Savard forming the first pairing, Edmundson and Xhekaj being the second duo and Harris and Kovacevic completing the line-up.
Jake Allen will be manning the net tonight, which means that Samuel Montembeault should be between the posts tomorrow night in Montreal as the Canadiens will take on the Canucks. As for Rem Pitlick, we’ll know at 14:00 if anyone claimed him.
Ce soir, les Canadiens joueront leur deuxième match de la saison contre les Red Wings de Détroit. Lors du premier affrontement, très tôt en saison, les Wings l’avaient emporté 3-0, Presque un mois plus tard, la jeune brigade défensive du Tricolore a pris de l’expérience et les hommes de Martin St-Louis nous livrent du hockey excitant, réussissant même à faire oublier aux fans que le CH a perdu ses trois derniers matchs.
Comme Josh Anderson est suspend pour 2 matchs et que Rem Pitlick est au ballotage, tous les yeux étaient tournés vers la pratique du CH puisque l’occasion était belle pour donner une promotion dans l’alignement à Juraj Slafkovsky. Le premier choix du CH au dernier encan jouera son 10e match ce soir, confirmant par le fait même qu’il brûlera la première année de son contrat d’entrée et il semblerait qu’il le fera sur le 4e trio avec Jake Evans et Joel Armia.
Sans surprise, la première ligne demeure inchangée puisque le combo Caufield-Suzuki-Dach produit à un rythme effreiné. Sur le 2e trio, Dadonov sera de retour dans l’alignement aux côtés de Sean Monahan et de Jonathan Drouin alors que Mike Hoffman se retrouvera sur la 3e ligne avec Dvorak et Gallagher.
Hier, Martin St-Louis a dit qu’il voulait voir Dadonov avoir un impact quand il reviendrait au jeu, on vera donc si le Russe saura répondre aux attentes de son entraîneur ce soir après avoir raté les 4 derniers matchs. J’espérais personnellement voir Slafkovsky jouer avec Monahan ce soir, mais il semble que le coach pense que ce n’est pas encore le moment, ou bien que le DG lui a dit que Dadonov devait rester en vitrine. Celui-ci a par ailleurs dit aux médias qu’il n’avait pas demandé d’échange et que de toute façon, ce n’était pas quelque chose qu’il controlait.
Il y a eu des murmures à l’effet que Slafkovsky pourrait être sur la première unite du jeu de puissance hier à l’entrainement, mais les joueurs ont confirmé qu’en fait, il pratiquait plutôt le désavantage numérique lors de l’exercice et que cela ne voulait pas dire que le jeune Slovaque avait obtenu une promotion.
À la ligne bleue, Chris Wideman sautera de nouveau son tour alors que Guhle et Savard formeront le premier trio, Edmundson et Xhekaj agiront comme 2e duo et qu’Harris et Kovacevic complèteront l’alignement.
Jake Allen sera devant le filet ce soir ce qui devrait vouloir dire que Samuel Montembeault sera devant le filet à Montréal demain soir pour affronter les Canucks. Quant à Rem Pitlick, on saura vers 14 :00 si quelqu’un l’a réclamé au ballotage.
