Game Summary:

It’s fair to say there are many things we haven’t seen since 2008 and 2009. In San Jose, 7 goals from 7 players for the first time since 2009. Tonight, a second straight game with 6 or more goals for the first time since 2008. Wings fans chanting in the away building got pretty loud again.

Credit where it’s due. Without Husso being amazing in the first, this is a very different game. The one CBJ goal saw some insane toe drag work from Jenner. Kubalik was making some really good saves too. Then, a 3 goal second period and a 2 goal 3rd period for Detroit for a 6-1 final that must have the team in good spirits.

There is too much to unpack, so here are some of the highlights. Seider’s no look shot fake in between the legs pass to Perron leading to a Larkin goal. That was something. In game 100 he has 51 career assists. Raymond is sticking up for teammates and getting in the scrums. Bertuzzi got his first after injury. Hronek is a new man. Larkin continues to add to his points total and Kubalik not being qualified by Chicago is looking like a gift.

To be fair, CBJ is missing a lot of personnel, including Werenski. The team has been playing with a lot of pride lately and finding ways to win in a tough situation.

For Detroit to still be in the running for a playoff spot is something very special and a huge boost for the team and for fans. I didn’t see them in this position, but there are some teams in Florida and one in Toronto we’re going to see quite a bit of coming up. Get the wins while you can.

Every once in a while, it’s nice to let the game speak for itself. You can watch all the goals below. This team is different. What’s going on right now brings back some good memories. The future certainly looks bright and Yzerman has, every year, brought in and pushed out players in quick fashion. The team needed some big wins and end the road trip well. We’ll see if they come out strong after a few days off and some home cooking. Again, Husso’s game cannot be understated. Without those huge saves (and there were several) this could have been a very different game. Instead, it’s locker room music and smiles all around.

1st Period Detroit Goals:

Larkin at 9:58 from Perron and Seider. Seider fakes a shot and does a blind back between the legs pass to Perron. That was something worth seeing. Perron to Larkin who went skate to stick and in the net for his 8th, tying Kubalik for team lead in goals.

Shots 13-12 DET
Score 1-0 DET

2nd Period Detroit Goals:
Credit where it’s due, Jenner left some paraphernalia up on the scoreboard with a toe drag move to assist on CBJs tying tally

Hronek restored the 1 goal lead as CBJ defense bounced a pass from behind the net right in front of the goalie. Both net minders have been coming up big, this was a strange broken play but a welcome one.

At 10:45 Raymond gets puck to Chiarot who launches a slapshot in for Detroit’s 3rd. Raymond plays strong with the puck. I think he surprises opponents with his ability to fight through. Copp with 2nd assist.

With 2:58 left to play, Larkin gets puck to Hronek who makes such a perfect top shelf shot that it stayed there. He was the only one who knew it was in for about a second or two. He is really playing with new energy.

Shots -26-22 DET
Score - 4-1 DET

3rd Period Detroit Goals:

Kubalik regained the goal scoring lead on the power play after Hronek took a rough ride from Olivier. Seider with a nice back and forth play to set up the shot. What a signing he’s been so far. Larkin grabs another point on 2nd assist.

At near the 9 minute mark Bertuzzi ripped a shot after Raymond bounced a puck to Copp that ended up on Tyler’s stick. Nice to see him get his first after coming off IR.

Final Shots: 37-28 DET
Final Score: 6-1 DET
