Wrap: Flyers Beat Blue Jackets, 5-3

The Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets, 5-3, at the Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday evening. Two goals apiece by Travis Konecny (13th and 14th of the season) and Owen Tippett (9th and 10th) paced Philly offensively. Morgan Frost (6th) also scored for Philly.

Cam York earned two assists. Scott Laughton, James van Riemsdyk and Joel Farabee chipped in one assist apiece. The Flyers are now 8-0-1 in games they have led at the second intermission.

Konecny's shorthanded goal was the lone tally of a strong first period for the Flyers. In the middle frame, goals by Kirill Marchenko (3rd) and Kent Johnson (8th) were answered by Frost and Tippett goals that sent Philly to the second intermission leading 3-2. Frost has scored goals in back-to-back games.

Early in the third period, Konecny opened a 4-2 edge for the Flyers. The Blue Jackets got back within 4-3 on an Andrew Peeke goal (2nd). Tippett restored the two-goal margin with an empty net goal.

Carter Hart stopped 30 of 33 shots to earn the win. Daniel Tarasov took the loss despite 34 saves on 38 shots.

The Flyers went 0-for-1 on the power play. The Blue Jackets were 0-for-1 and allowed the Konecny shorthanded goal.

The Flyers will hold an 11:30 a.m. practice in Voorhees on Wednesday. The club will be very busy the rest of this week before the leaguewide Christmas break. On Thursday, the Flyers are in Toronto to play the Maple Leafs. On Friday, they play the Hurricanes in Raleigh.
