As expected, waiver wire pick-up Chris Tierney was at the morning skate with his new teammate and Martin St-Louis has confirmed that he will be making his Habs debut tonight. The head coach stated that he wants to ease him in, so he’ll be centering the 4th line alongside Pezzetta and Belzile for now, but he’ll also be used to kill penalties which makes sense since Armia normally kills penalties and it doesn’t look like he’ll be playing.
The first line remains untouched, while Dvorak will skate with Pitlick and Dadonov on the 2nd and Drouin with Hoffman and Ylonen. On the blue line, Matheson and Barron are still together, Schueneman with Savard and Harris with Kovacevic.
Kaiden Guhle was skating as the 7th defenseman, but for the first time since he started skating again, he was wearing a regular jersey and could take contact. St-Louis stopped short of confirming that he could return to the line-up as soon as tomorrow when prompted to by the media, but he did say that was yet another step in his recovery. Of course, there’s no point in rushing him to return considering the Habs are playing some meaningless hockey right now.
Newcomer Tierney will be wearing number 67 last worn by Michael Frolik in 2021 and former captain Max Pacioretty from 2009 to 2018. In net, Jake Allen will be on duty tonight while Samuel Montembeault will get to play against the Sens tomorrow night.
As dominoes keep falling on the trade market with the Bruins making a significant move last night acquiring Orlov and Hathaway, there’s hardly any rumblings concerning the Canadiens although Frank Sevaralli reported last night that the Canadiens had let it be known to GMs throughout the league that they were willing to act as third-party brokers. It’s a logical course of action considering that Hughes’ most valuable assets are currently injured and he may not want to part with someone like Josh Anderson who has been mentioned in rumors for the last few weeks.
Tonight’s opponent, the Flyers have lost their last game and have a 3-5-2 record in their last 10 outings, just a tad worse than the Habs who are 4-5-1. This will be the second game between the two sides this season, the Canadiens having won the last contest 5-4 in the shootout on a Nick Suzuki goal.
