Martin St-Louis' men have a tough task on their hands tonight as they'll be taking on the Los Angeles Kings who are only 2 points behind the conference leading Golden Knights. The Kings are 6-2-2 in the last 10 games, and they've won their last one, but the core might still be reeling from the Jonathan Quick trade.
Meanwhile, the Canadiens had a day off yesterday and tonight will be the first game of a back-to-back, tomorrow’s tilt being against the Anaheim Ducks. No word yet as to which of the two Canadiens goaltender will get the nod tonight, but they’ll surely split the workload over these 48 hours. Judging by Allen’s performance on Tuesday night, St-Louis might want to run with the hot hand and give him the net.
As most of the big fishes have been caught on the trade market, we could be in for a really quiet trade deadline tomorrow, but Eliotte Friedman said earlier today on FAN590 that the Lightning might have some interest in Canadiens’ defenseman Joel Edmundson. It’s far from a done deal, but it does give some hope that the Canadiens could at least get some breadcrumbs from this deadline. We’ll have to see if Edmundson gets the green light to play tonight, that would be a step in the right direction. Perhaps he can be this year’s Savard for Brisebois and co.
As the Canadiens are in the midst of their western road trip, many of the injured Canadiens stayed behind in Montreal and two of them decided to please the fans last night when they took part in a free public autograph signing session at Lachute Ford. Plenty of die-hard fans made the drive to the north shore to go meet Juraj Slafkovsky and Brendan Gallagher. While Slafkovsky looked pretty healthy, Gallagher is still walking with a protective cast on his leg, and it doesn’t look like he’s anywhere near returning to play.
I couldn’t resist the temptation and I took the afternoon off yesterday to take my girlfriend’s kid to his first signing session. Armed with the puck he got at the Red vs White scrimmage game at the start of the season, he was over the moon to get Gallagher to sign it and he even got his picture taken with both players. As I was putting him to bed last night he said: “I had an excellent day today!” and that’s exactly what Spring Break is for. The lucky little devil was even spoilt by the Meda Fan Ford team who gave him a free Cole Caufield T-shirt.
He wasn’t the only one who had a good day though, I was rather happy to get Slafkovsky to sign my 16x20 photo of our rookies with their first goal puck which Guhle and Xhekaj had already signed thanks to Memorable Authentic. Right now, that’s my favourite collection piece for the new generation. Tonight’s game is another late one as the face-off is set for 10:30.
