While the Canadiens have long stopped dreaming about the playoffs (they didn’t even start to be fair), the Golden Knights are hot on Dallas’ tail for the top spot in the Western Conference. The Stars are leading the race by a single point but the Knights do have a game in hand. If the Canadiens have had more than their share of injury trouble this year, the same can be said about the Golden Knights when it comes to goaltenders.

Starting goaltender Robin Lehner who Vegas chose over fan favorite Marc-André Fleury has missed the whole season and the Knights have had to make do with Aidan Hill and number one Logan Thompson for most of the year, but with Thompson now injured, general manager Kelly McCrimmon went out to get Jonathan Quick from Columbus after the Jackets got him out of divisional rival Los Angeles’ clutches in a previous trade. At 37, Quick is having the worst season of his career by a mile and yet, confronted with a lack of option, the Knights have decided to bet on him. The veteran netminder will get to play his first game with his new team tonight against the Canadiens.

Speaking of new players, last night, the Habs recalled trade deadline acquisition Frederic Allard from Laval which leads me to believe that Kaiden Guhle won’t be available even though he did finish the game in Anaheim. We should know more once the team has had its morning skate and the coach has spoken to the media.

Tonight’s game starts at 6:00 PM eastern time and there’s no word yet as to who will be manning the Canadiens’ net. Vegas has won its last two games and are 7-2-1 in their last 10 while the Canadiens have lost their last 2 and are breaking even in their last 10 games. With the road ahead looking rather challenging for the Habs, wins could be few and far between until season’s end and that’s not necessarily a bad thing, as long as both the team and the players keep on learning and developing.

The Canadiens have recalled defenseman Frédéric Allard from the Laval Rocket (emergency recall).

He will be available to play tomorrow against the Golden Knights in Vegas.#GoHabsGo
