Tonight’s visitors are in 2nd place in the Metropolitan division and chances are that’s where they’ll remain until the end of the season. They are trailing Carolina by 4 points and the Canes have a game in hand. Meanwhile, the Rangers are not exactly breathing down their neck being 9 points behind and having played the same number of games. Lindy Ruff’s men have won their last game and are 7-2-1 in their last 10.
The 2 sides last met on February 21st when the Canadiens signed a 5-2 win, which was surprising considering that New Jersey had 40 shots on Samuel Montembeault’s net while Montreal could only muster a measly 18 shots. Needless to say, without Montembeault’s play, the scoreline would have been much different.
Tonight, “Snacks” as David Savard calls him won’t be in net though as Martin St-Louis has already confirmed that Jake Allen would get the start. No word on which goaltender will be in for the New Jersey outfit so far.
The Canadiens held an optional morning skate at the Bell Centre this morning Matheson, Edmundson, Gurianov, Pitlick, Harvey-Pinard, Pezzetta, Ylonen, Belzile, Richard and both goaltenders took the ice along with Justin Barron who was in a no contact jersey. Apparently, Kirby Dach skated on his own prior to the team’s skate, which is reassuring considering the mystery that surrounds his lower body injury.
While the team was skating, Tricolore Sports held its pro-stock and game-used equipment sale this morning and you had to be there bright and early to get some of the good stuff. I turned up at 5:30 AM and was 10th in line, good enough to get myself some Josh Anderson game-used skates which will look great on the shrine.
