The San Jose Sharks finally snapped their nine-game losing streak last night, defeating the Winnipeg Jets 3-0.
It didn’t come easy, as the team still gave up 41 shots in the win. However, after going up midway through the opening frame off a goal from Noah Gregor, James Reimer made some huge saves to keep the Sharks ahead. Kevin Labanc then tipped in a shot early in the third period to extend the lead, before Martin Kaut scored on a power play late in the third, on route to the win.
Obviously it took a huge effort from Reimer, carrying the Sharks to the win. But it’s just good to see the Sharks get a victory, even if it doesn’t mean much right now. It also marked Martin Kaut’s third goal in just eight games with the Sharks.
San Jose now has two wins over their last 16 games and they’ve both come against the Winnipeg Jets.
In other news from today, the team also signed defenseman Nikolai Knyzhov to a two-year contract extension, which carries a $1.25 million cap hit.
Knyzhov just turned 25 years old but has dealt with massive injury trouble for the past couple years. Having finally just gotten back into action though, he’s played nine games with the Sharks and 13 AHL games with the Barracuda this season.
Prior to the injury, Knyzhov showed a lot of promise as a rookie in the 2020-21 season. Hopefully he can stay healthy, given he’d have a great opportunity to make an impact with the Sharks in the coming years.
The Sharks will be back in action tomorrow, as they host the Vegas Golden Knights. Henry Thrun is also expected to suit up for the Sharks tomorrow, making his NHL debut.
