Jets Dominate Sharks in Must-Win Game, Move Closer To Clinching |

The Winnipeg Jets are now just one point from locking down a playoff spot with two games remaining after dominating the San Jose Sharks, winning 6-2.
With Nashville and Calgary set to faceoff tonight, the loser of that game will be eliminated from the wild card race, and the winning team will need to win their remaining games, while the Jets would need to lose both of their last two in regulation for them to miss the playoffs.
While anything is possible, it looks like we are going to see the Winnipeg Jets fans in the Canada Life Center in the post-season again after missing last season.
A huge shoutout goes to Erik Karlsson for his two-goal performance, giving him his 24th and 25th goal of the season, and hitting the 100-point mark, becoming the first defenseman to do so since Brian Leetch in the 1991-92 season. He is having a spectacular season, and while all Jets fans are hoping for Josh Morrissey to sneak his way into the Norris race, you have to give credit where credit is due.
Speaking of Morrissey, he led the Jets to their victory with one goal and a pair of assists, bringing his total to 75 points on the season. His historic season continues, as he has held to record for the most points by a Jets defenseman for quite some time now, but with the games becoming more and more important, he is continuing to add insurance to that record.
Mark Scheifele scored his 41st goal of the season, continuing to add to his career-high in goals. His 26 assists is a bit underwhelming this year, but his production has been at a solid level for the majority of the season and despite all of the controversy with his play, 41 goals is quite impressive.
Connor Hellebuyck put together a 19-save performance, only allowing two goals, and odds are that he will be playing both games in the back-to-back as the Jets are playing Minnesota tomorrow in a potential playoff-clinching game.
The Jets' special teams were impressive, going 2/2 on the powerplay and 3/4 on the penalty kill. While the Jets have been good at even strength this year, the special teams will be important come playoff time, as there are less penalties, and you need to be able to take advantage of every opportunity you get.
Now that it is crunch time, the Jets have been playing very well. They starting the season extremely hot, and around the turn of the new year, they started coasting, fell into a bit of a slump, and couldn't get themselves out. During this time, it generated a lot of tension with the fanbase, the coach, the star players, the depth, everybody. Now that they are winning while it matters most, things seem to be running a lot smoother with the team. This team needs pressure, and Rick Bowness did a great job getting the team under pressure right out of the gate this season, but as I mentioned, they let off the gas. This team plays their best hockey when they are really playing for something.
Hopefully the Jets can carry this play into the post-season, because with their fire-power, star defenseman and one of the best goaltenders in the NHL, anything can happen once they make it in.
There are certainly some concerns about the teams' depth and how it may get exposed in a 7-game series, but they have all of the top pieces they will need to make an impact.
As it sits now, if the Jets do indeed get in, it looks like they will be facing off against the Vegas Golden Knights or the Edmonton Oilers; two teams that both have a similar weakness as the Jets in their forward depth.
