One of the Vancouver Canucks' top objectives heading into the 2023 NHL Offseason is to free up cap space. As a result of this, in a recent piece for Daily Faceoff, NHL insider Frank Seravalli listed J.T. Miller and Tyler Myers as potential trade candidates.

Miller's name picked up a lot of steam in the rumor mill as we inched closer to the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline, and he was specifically linked to the Pittsburgh Penguins. It was later reported by NHL insider Elliotte Friedman that the Canucks asked for two first-round picks and a notable prospect for Miller, but the Penguins felt that their asking price was simply too high. Although the Penguins had a confirmed interest in Miller, they also fired former GM Ron Hextall, so things may change on that front with their new management coming in.

However, other teams in need of center help like the Carolina Hurricanes and Colorado Avalanche could be in the mix for Miller this summer if the Canucks listen to offers for him yet again.

If the Canucks truly want to move Miller this offseason, they have until July 1 before his extension and full no-movement clause (NMC) kick in. It's a tough call to make, as Miller ended the season with 32 goals and 82 points in 81 games played. Losing that kind of offensive production would not be ideal for the Canucks, but at the same time, Vancouver would free up a lot of cap space.

Moving on to Myers, he's another player with an expensive cap hit who the Canucks could look to move. His $6 million cap hit would be beneficial for Vancouver to get off the books, and he's easier to move when noting that he has just one year left on his deal. With that, he has a 10-team no-trade list, rather than a full NMC like Miller (starting July 1).

Teams are always looking for big-bodied right-shot defensemen who can play top-four minutes, so don't be surprised if the Canucks get some calls about Myers this summer. In 78 games this season, the 2008 first-round pick had one goal to go along with 16 assists. Some teams who could consider making a push for Myers include the Buffalo Sabres, Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Columbus Blue Jackets.
