Ducks sign Troy Terry to seven-year contract extension |

The Anaheim Ducks announced today that they’ve signed forward Troy Terry to a seven-year contract, which carries a $7 million cap hit.
Terry will turn 26 years old in September and this past season, the winger scored 23 goals and 61 points in 70 games with the Ducks. Terry would’ve had an arbitration hearing today, had the extension not been signed.
Obviously, locking up Terry long-term is a huge win. Over the last two years, he’s emerged as the team’s top winger and still just in his mid-20s, the deal should run right through Terry’s prime. That’s also not to mention the very reasonable cap hit.
I had projected Terry’s contract at HockeyComparables.com, and his cap hit for a seven-year deal was below what would’ve been projected by just about every comparable deal:

The Ducks have slowly been building a forward group that can help the team compete long-term, and Terry should be a key part of it. Especially with a rising cap, he’s going to provide great value for his contract.
The team still has two more big RFA contracts to sign, in Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drsydale. I’ve released a projection for Zegras already (which can be viewed below), and a Drysdale projection should be released soon.

So while management still has a bit of work to do before the offseason comes to a close, the Terry contract is a huge step for the franchise.
