Evgeny Svechnikov is linked to the KHL for the upcoming season. More than anything, Svech always seemed like a genuinely good guy. It just hasn’t worked out with injuries, waivers and an inability to stick in the NHL. Hoping for all the best for a former first rounder. Not to rub salt in the wound, but of Mantha, Svech, Rasmussen and Zadina only Rasmussen has been able to stick around. Mantha for Vrana started out great but ended on a sour note and Zadina wanted a fresh start. Not a great run of first round picks in terms of team building from the old guard. Yzerman’s first pick as GM in Detroit in Seider has turned out well thus far. Really enjoy watching his game.
After what sounds like some internal tension in the Calgary organization, there are a few players who aren’t looking to extend. This is a quote taken from pro hockey rumors:
As much as the team would like to make its way back to the postseason, all signs are pointing to a year of transition rather quickly, as Mikael Backlund, Elias Lindholm and Noah Hanifin have all refused to sign extensions, causing them to see their names pop up in trade rumors rather frequently.
Though we don’t need more left side D, Hanifin is an appealing name. A few of you have expressed some degree of interest there. Let me know your thoughts on Backlund, Lindholm and/or Hanifin. We’ll see if Yzerman is kicking tires soon enough.
