While the game ended 2-1, the score doesn’t really reflect how it went since the Canadiens had a 35-17 edge shot wise and rang the iron at least six times. To be fair though, Montreal’s line-up included 15 players who were drafted while Ottawa’s only had five. Still, it was Jan Mysak’s second game of the tournament which was the difference maker today.

Over the course of the tournament, William Trudeau was really impressive and calm on the ice, head coach Jean-François Houle even went as far as saying that he “Ran things this weekend”. Today, Logan Mailloux played in a third consecutive game and performed well. He puts his struggles in the first game down to the fact that he hadn’t played for five months, now that his synchronism is back, he felt much better on the ice. David Reinbacher played a second game today and he wasn’t all that noticeable which is a positive considering the style of hockey he plays. The Austrian witnessed his first fight in person as he explained that in Switzerland, you get some scrums and that’s it.

Meanwhile, Florian Xhekaj was promoted to the second line today and he reminded everyone of his brother as he roughed up the Senators a little bit, getting three penalties in the second frame alone. Joshua Roy had a good tournament and will be one of the players to watch in Laval this season. Xavier Simoneau also performed very well, which should give him a bit of a confidence boost before he starts his second season with the Rocket.

Mesar, Farrell and Kidney didn’t impress me much over the weekend, it feels like their size plays against them and that they’ll need to find a way to elevate their game to be successful at the highest level. Tomorrow, to put an end to the rookie camp, Rob Ramage and Francis Bouillon will be taking questions in the morning at the CN Complex in Brossard, no practice is scheduled.
Now, who’s ready for the main camp to start?
