The Columbus Blue Jackets were blanked by the Detroit Red Wings by the final score of 4-0.
The Wings had goals from Shayne Gostisbehere, Michael Rasmussen, Dylan Larkin, and Andrew Copp. James Reimer stopped all 23 shots.
Damon Severson was benched the entire third period. He was a -2 with 11:57 TOI. Tough tough night for him on the ice. Worse, he is only in game three of 82 in the first year of a $50M dollar contract. Spencer Martin had 24 saves on 28 shots.
Tough Monday night game for the players. Was not the performance that should have been. Martin’s first start. Lack of heart and effort with a bunch of dashes.

Monsters Split Weekend Openings
The Cleveland Monsters had their season open on the road splitting their Saturday and Sunday games.
Cleveland decisively defeated the Leigh Valley Phantoms by the final score of 5-2, and were dominated by the defending Calder Cup Champions 5-2.

Trey Fix-Wolansky headlined four point night performance with two goals and two assists.
Fix-Wolansky had the opening goal and a secondary assist on the Monsters’ second goal, scored by Carson Meyer.
Tyler Angle had the unassisted goal in the middle of Fixy’s night.
The ex-Oil King also had the secondary assist on Meyer’s second goal; and his second goal was unassisted.
The other Monsters to get points on the night were Stanislav Svozil and Jake Christiansen. Billy Sweezey had a third period fight. Jet Greaves had 29 saves on 31 shots.

The defending champions stomped on the Monsters 5-2.
Captain Brendan Gaunce and defender Marcus Bjork had the goals.
Dmitri Vokornov had his first career AHL point.
Trey Fix-Wolansky had the secondary assist on the Gaunce goal, putting him in the top 5 of AHL point scoring after opening weekend.
Pavel Cajan had 5 goals on 27 shots faced.
