Canucks Trade Jack Rathbone to Penguins |

Jack Rathbone's time with the Vancouver Canucks organization is over, as he and Karel Plasek have been traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Mark Friedman and Ty Glover.
Rathbone and Friedman will be beginning their tenures with their new teams in the AHL, while Plasek and Glover have been assigned to the ECHL by their new clubs.
Rathbone was once a notable prospect in the Canucks' system. In 2021-22 with the Abbotsford Canucks, he had a notable 10 goals and 40 points in 39 games However, he notably took a step backward last season, posting just five goals and 14 points in 37 AHL games.
Rathbone, 24, is still young enough where he could turn things around. Yet, even with this being so, a change of scenery was needed, and now he has gotten that with the Penguins organization.
The Canucks are getting an experienced depth defenseman with this Friedman addition. The 5-foot-11 defenceman has made appearances at the NHL level in each of the last five seasons, playing in 65 games split between the Philadelphia Flyers and Penguins.
Friedman will serve as a veteran presence down in Abbotsford and be a decent call-up option for when injuries inevitably arise during the season.
Overall, this has the potential to be a decent move for both clubs. Rathbone gets the opportunity of a fresh start with the Penguins, while Friedman will provide the Canucks with more depth and overall experience. It will be interesting to see how these two, as well as Plasek and Glover, do with their new clubs from here.
