Having snapped their 4-game losing streak with a win against the Red Wings on Thursday, the Canadiens will be back in action tonight at home against the old enemy, the Boston Bruins. These Bruins have a new look this season, gone are Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci and they’ve got a new captain in Brad Marchand. An old Bruin is back though as Milan Lucic came back last off season on a 35+ contract. The tough guy is not as tough as he once was though and right now, he’s on the injury list and he’s evaluated daily. If he is back in the line-up tonight, Arber Xhekaj may be tempted to tussle with the vet after taking care of Ryan Reaves at the start of the season.
If pundits thought the Bruins would be taking a step back this season with Bergeron’s retirement, they were sorely mistaken, Boston hasn’t skipped a beat. Jim Montgomery’s men are currently second in the league with an 11-1-1 record. David Pastrnak is leading the charge offensively with 20 points, seven more than captain Brad Marchand who’s still a point per game player. In net, Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark are sharing the net. The former has played six games and has a 6-0-0 record, while the latter has a 5-1-1 record. Swayman has a 1.49 GAA and a .952 SP while Ullmark has a 2.26 GAA and a .926 SP. In other words, both goaltenders are stingy and a real challenge to play against.
Meanwhile, the Canadiens, after a surprisingly good start to the season have been brought back to earth of late and they now stand in 7th place of the Atlantic division and 11th in the Eastern conference. Still, the did manage to win their last game which must have done wonders for their confidence. Cayden Primeau signed his first win of the season in Detroit, but judging by what we’ve seen this season, it doesn’t guarantee him the net, the joys of being in a menage trois (yes, I went there). Of the three Habs’ goalie, Jake Allen has got the better record against the Bruins 4-5-1, a 2.60 GAA and a .919 SP. Primeau has never played against them and Montembeault has got one measly win in six games with a 4.15 GAA and a .885.
Whoever is in goal tonight will have a tough task at hand since the Boston outfit has won the last 10 games between the two teams. The game is set for 7:00 PM and it will be military appreciation night since today is Remembrance Day.
