Since his offense is struggling to score, Martin St-Louis decided to design a practice in which his players would get to “feel the puck around the net” and shoot and shoot again. It almost looked like a minor hockey practice although the coach denied ever running a similar practice with his peewee team. This morning, Jake Allen and Samuel Montembeault were working extra time as for just the third time this season, Cayden Primeau will be getting the net. The coach said he deserves that game as he has worked hard, and his game has improved as his teammates have mentioned it after seeing play in practice. It will no doubt be a tough test for the young netminder as Vegas has scored 55 goals in 16 games so far this year, making them the third most productive team.
Aside from the goaltender, there will be another line-up change since Rafael Harvey-Pinard will have to sit the game out because of a lower body injury which will be evaluated on a daily basis. As a result, Michael Pezzetta will draw back into the line-up. The coach didn’t mention any other line-up changes, meaning that Jordan Harris is probably still out and Gustav Lindstrom still in.
The last time the two teams met, the Canadiens played one of their best games of the season, giving their all through 65 minutes before losing in the shootout. Tonight, the people of Quebec would be grateful for a win as they are still reeling from the loss of Karl Tremblay, lead singer of the Cowboys Fringants who lost his battle to cancer yesterday. Tremblay and the Cowboys Fringants have been an integral part of Quebec’s musical scene for over 20 years, releasing hits after hits going from serious issues such as sovereignty, deforestation and climate change to lighthearted fun songs. A huge hockey fan, Tremblay was a proud Habs fan and back in the 2021 playoffs, prior to the start of the series against the Golden Knights, the band predicted the Habs would win in six games eliminating the Knight on Saint-Jean-Baptiste day and adding that if it came to be, Tremblay and Pauzé would do a Facebook like to celebrate. As we all know now, the prediction game true and in many houses, people celebrated the win with their live performance on Facebook.
Tonight, I would like to see the Canadiens honor Karl Tremblay, even if his political stance probably didn’t align with that of the owner of the team, he was and will remain a very influential voice on the Quebec musical scene. Last night, my social media feeds were inundated with grieving fans lamenting his early departure from this world.
Tonight, at the very least, there has to be a minute of silence, but I think the band’s songs should resonate in the building all night long. Starting with the song the Habs come on the ice to. I’d replace the classic “Fix You” with “Les étoiles filantes” just for one night, as a sendoff to a great man, father, and musician. Thinking about the family he leaves behind, I’m sure they’d appreciate a declaration of love from the 21 000 Habs faithful who’ll be in attendance and what better way to send him off could there be than making them all sing along to one of their hits? Think about it, “Toune d’automne” sang by 21 000 people, goosebumps guaranteed as those who have attended Cowboys Fringants gig at the Bell Center or elsewhere will tell you. Tonight, play for Karl and for Québec guys.
