Detroit got 1 point in their first of back to back games in Sweden. Tonight, Lyon is in net and I have no idea what to expect. No reps all year so far. Wings opening with Veleno/Fabbri/Raymond up front.

Summary:
Detroit started better, played well in the second, and then collapsed completely in the third (no Walman didn’t help). For the “faceoffs don’t make a huge difference crowd”, sometimes they really do. 2 goals directly a result of Toronto’s faceoff wins.

Wings will tuck their tails and lick their wounds on the flight back gaining only 1 of four points and letting in 3 or more goals in both games. At least Lyon made Toronto get to double digits but had no help defensively on the game winner. Nylander’s streak is jacking up his contract price and the Leafs have decisions to make.

In short, Detroit played 40 good minutes, then just laid down and got rolled on. At some point this is on the coach and even the GM should feel some of the heat. If the staff you have in place can’t get a 60 minute effort out of the team, time to make some more changes.

Disappointing falls utterly short of what Detroit did today. We can only hope that this isn’t what the team is for the next 10, 20 or 30 games. Letting in 3 goals per game and sometimes being able to overcome it. Not a good look.

First Period Detroit goals:
No first period goals for Detroit.

First Period:

4 minutes in Detroit gets their first power play opportunity. No scoring, some decent looks.

At 7:50 Toronto had their first power play, Wings killed it off.

With 5:30 left shots are 7-3 DET and no score. Lyon looks good so far, but Detroit had a better start. With 4:46 left Lynne made a big save on Domi after a turnover by Detroit.

At 17:26 Wings back to power play after Bertuzzi heads to the box. Still hard to see him in a different jersey. Wings don’t convert, a couple of looks and a good hard shot by Sprong. Shots 8-5 DET.

Score: 0-0
Shots: 8-5 DET

Second Period Detroit goals:
Sprong’s Penalty Shot

Raymonds rip

Second Period

Wings end up getting Seider in the box as he and Nylander had a scuff, Seider got hit harder penalty wise. Refs just can’t get it right sometimes.

attorney 9:15 Wings to the power play. Unable to convert.

With 7:08 left, Sprong got a penalty shot as a Toronto player put their hand over the puck. Beautifully Executed. 1-0 DET

With 5:16 Raymond took a shot from the bottom of the left faceoff circle. What a beauty. 2-0 DET.

With 4:31 left Detroit back to the power play as Toronto had too many men on the ice. Unable to convert and still seeing too many passes going through the slot. Those are getting picked off almost every time.

Shots: 19-14
Score: 2-0

Third Period Detroit goals:

Third Period

At 3:50 Bertuzzi scored off his skate after Nylander made a beautiful drive and extends point streak. TOR on the board. 2-1 DET

Leafs really bringing it. Wings look helpless. Luckily Lyon doing well so far.

With 7:14 left, leafs get a power play. Shots now 26-25 TOR. Awful timing with Walman out and Seider in the box. Nylander scores 16 seconds in as Detroit failed to clear. Horrible ending to what had been a good game by Detroit.

5:33 left Toronto scores again, off the faceoff. 2 goals directly impacted by faceoffs. Red Wings decided to lose this one by coming out lazy and unprepared in the third instead of the first.
