The first stop of this road trip promises to be challenging for the young Canadiens as the Jets are having an excellent month of December so far with a 6-1-0 record. Rick Bowness’ men have won their last two games and their last three home games. This will be the second game of the season between the two sides as the Jets visited Montreal in late October, dropping a 4-3 decision in the shootout. This was the only time Winnipeg went to the shootout this season.
There’s no word yet on who will be manning the Canadiens’ net, but it was Jake Allen who beat Winnipeg at the end of October and his career stats against tonight’s opponent are slightly better than Samuel Montembeault’s. Allen has a 3.21 GAA and a .886 SP while Montembeault’s got a 3.70 GAA and a .882 save percentage. As for Primeau, he’s never taken on the Jets. The Quebecer was in net for the last two games and won the last one against the Islanders.
Up front, Josh Anderson, who scored two goals in Saturday’s win against the Islanders has got a whooping 19.6% shot percentage against the Jets, could he bring on the heat like he did last game? He certainly wouldn’t complain. As for the Jets, Gabe Vilardi is one of the players to watch, obtained in the Dubois trade to Los Angeles, he has six points in his last two games. The Habs would do well to also keep an eye on Nikolaj Ehlers who’s back to his old self after a slow start to the season. In the Jets’ seven games in December, he has 11 points. Kyle Connor also has 22 points in 19 career games against the Habs.
Montreal and Winnipeg have faced each other 79 times and the Canadiens have a winning record 46-21-2-10. Montreal has won four of the last 10 duels , including the last two. Tonight’s game is scheduled for 7:30 PM and the Habs will have a morning skate at 10:30 AM local time or 11:30 EST, we should know the goaltender then.
