There now appears to be a little chance that John Gibson will be moved by the deadline. There is no shortage of teams looking hard for goaltending and the Ducks will need the help moving forward. The issue here is twofold. Of course, Gibson has come out and said he likes playing in Anaheim, but more importantly..... he's not cheap
Gibson is $6.4 million per year for three years following this one...
The Ducks seem to have enough suitors that they aren't likely to be picking up any of that salary. However, if they did the price would be much higher and the return would be much greater. While they aren't likely to eat cap money, they could take on salary, which is why there are rumblings that Anaheim may have been permitted to talk to the agent of the Leafs' William Nylander... It is widely known that Nylander would like to play for the Kings in SoCal...you can still live in Manhattan Beach if you are a Duck...is this an option for Nylander?
The Devils have also been hard at work trying to figure this one out...The feeling is strong that Gibson + NJ could = be Cups-a-plenty...
The Blackhawks actually could take on the whole salary.... and Gibson might relish playing in the Windy City...with Mr. Bedard flying around the ice.
The Sabres and Penguins feel more like long shots at this point...Buffalo would have to have soured a bit on the young Levi, and the Penguins....well not only is this Gibson's town, they are in major WIN NOW mode....
