Lots of reports and all the sources seem to be saying the same thing at this hour. William Nylander will be extended by the Toronto Maple Leafs. This will give the leaves four players, for forwards in the $11 million range.

There is no question that Nylander has been one of the best Maple leafs this year…and even parts of last year. However throughout his career, his consistency has wildly been sporadic. And you hate to say, “he’s playing in a contract year now, so he’s giving it is all,” ….but it’s hard to completely ignore that fact.

The fact is the Leafs could be spending $45 million for four forwards for years to come…. Such sustainable? Does the Nylander extension mean Tavares isn’t staying around?

Is this the right play by the Leafs?
