Trey Augustine may well be getting some congratulatory phone calls from the Wings front office. The 41st pick of last year’s draft helped the USA bring home the gold as Sweden was beaten 6-2 on home ice. Axel Sandin-Pellikka is likely discouraged but has drawn a good deal of praise from his overseas play this season.

Here is a link to the gamecenter for the finals. The two teams were equal in shots on net at 26 apiece, but the outcomes were very different. You can get play by play and some highlight reels here.

Many fans are in agreement that the blue line and goal tending pipeline needs to produce some quality to move ahead. It seems like Augustine and Sandin-Pellikka could at least get some kudos and possibly some GR time depending on their scenarios at the end of the season. We’ll see how the front office feels soon enough.

Congrats to Team USA and Team Sweden for earning a trip to the finals, and a big congrats as Augustine has a lifelong Golden keepsake for the showcase.
