Game 49 Preview: Flyers @ Red Wings

The Philadelphia Flyers (25-17-6) will take on the Detroit Red Wings (24-18-5) at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday. Game time is 7:00 p.m. ET.

Philly recently assembled a five-game winning streak that included a sweep of a three-game road trip and then a blowout victory over the Dallas Stars. Since then, however, the Flyers have lost three straight games in regulation to the Colorado Avalanche, Ottawa Senators and Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Red Wings, who are playing the third game of a five-game homestand, are 5-2-1 over their last eight games. The victories include wins over Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers (OT), and Tampa Bay Lightning. However, Detroit enters this game coming off a 5-4 loss to Dallas on Tuesday.

With Carter Hart on indefinite leave of absence, Samuel Ersson will start both Thursday's game in Detroit and Saturday afternoon's home match against the Bruins. At least for the next two games, Cal Petersen will serve as the backup goaltender. The Flyers have a schedule break from Jan. 28 until Feb. 5.

Owen Tippett (lower-body injury) is on injured reserve. However, he is still considered day-to-day after getting injured in the third period of last Saturday's game against Colorado. The Flyers recalled Olle Lycksell earlier this season.

For Detroit, Patrick Kane has missed the last three games with a lower-body injury sustained in the Jan. 14 game against Toronto. He practiced in full on Wednesday.

An in-depth "Five Things" game preview -- matchups, team trends, stats -- will be posted around 10 a.m. ET on PhiladelphiaFlyers.com.
