The love is in the air and the vacation break is over for the Columbus Blue Jackets after their first game back on the ice occurred on Saturday. An 11 day break caught the team in cobwebs in an unsurprising loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning at home on Saturday night.

CBJ PG 51 v Tampa Bay - Bolt of Energy

The Lightning got three points from Brandon Hagel, but captain Steven Stamkos got the game winner over the home Blue Jackets by the final score of 4-2.

Period I

Nicholas Paul opened up the scoring and my floodgates in fantasy with his 14th goal of the season. Rockford Icehawks’ legends Brandon Hagel and Darren Raddysh had the helpers on the powerplay goal.

Period II

Oshawa Generals’ alumni Anthony Cirelli extended the road team’s lead just 49 seconds into the second period for his 11th of the season.

Damon Severson got his first Blue Jackets’ scrap in a heavy tilt with Raddysh.

Andrei Vaslievsky on fire through 40 stopping all 23 shots faced from the home team.

Period III

The captain got his game winner on the powerplay for his 22nd of the year. The own rental Steven Stamkos got his assists from Victor Hedman and Nikita Kucherov.

The home team came back with two quick goals from the All Star captain in everyone’s rumor mill.

Jenner’s first of the night came past the midway mark for his 14th of the year from Johnny Gaudreau and Zach Werenski.

The C’s second off the powerplay for 15 was helped by Johnny Hockey and sophomore Kirill Marchenko.

Hagel got the empty net goal with 45 seconds left from Kuch and Cirelli.

Goalies

Andrei Vaslievsky swallowed 33 of 35 shots for a 0.943 save percentage.

Elvis Merzlikins allowed 3 goals on 36 shots for a 0.917 save percentage.

This Week

Road trip to Canada’s capital against the spiraling Senators in the East toilet bowl. This is the first game of road trip that takes the team to SoCal to start with the Pacific’s worst San Jose Sharks.
