CBJ PG52 — What the Tkachuk?!

A Brady Tkachuk hat-trick leads the Ottawa Senators over the Columbus Blue Jackets by the final score of 6-3.

Period I

Dmitry Voronkov opened the scoring for the game with his 13th of the season. The rookie had his goals assisted by linemates Kent Johnson and Kirill Marchenko.

Brady Tkachuk brought the home team back to even with his 23rd of the season. His powerplay goal was assisted by Josh Norris and Claude Giroux.

Tkachuk got his second of the game unassisted to give the home team their first lead of the night, and they were able to hold it the rest of the way.

Giroux got a shorthanded goal late in the first to get the Sens’ lead extended for his 17th of the season from Parker Kelly.


Period II

Ridly Greig opened the Sens’ second period scoring for his ninth of the season. Rumor watch Vladimir Tarasenko had the primary assist. Noted gambler Shane Pinto had the secondary assist keeping him as a point per game since his return to the lineup.

The captain Boone Jenner responded to the Greig goal for the All Star’s 16th of the campaign. Johnny Gaudreau and Zach Werenski had the helpers.

Rental Jack Roslovic got his third of the season. The former Sen Erik Gubdranson had the main assist. Jake Bean had the other apple.

Tkachuk answered back with the hat-trick goal on the powerplay to get him to number 26 on the year. Giroux and Thomas Chabot had the helpers.

Period III

Erik Branstrom had the empty net goal for his third of the year.

Players to Watch

Claude Giroux had 3 points on the evening, including a shorty.

Mathieu Olivier - Paz kept his fourth line time on ice thin to get the team back in the game. 5 hits in 5 minutes with 2 blocked shots and a minor penalty at -1.

Goaltenders

Anton Forsberg had 37 saves on 40 shots for a 0.925 save percentage.

Daniil Tarasov allowed 5 goals on 29 shots for a 0.828 save percentage, his lowest save percentage of the season.

What’s Next?

California trip begins as we race toward the trade deadline. San Jose on Saturday. Elvis talk has silenced. Nothing new on Roslovic. Jenner still seems to be maybe the bell of the ball.
