Fresh off an unexpected win against the Nashville Predators, the Canadiens will now be taking on a team that has been their Achilles heel of late, the Carolina Hurricanes. Rod Brind’Amour’s team has won its last seven games against Montreal and nine of the last 10 duels.
Brendan Gallagher, who has got three points in his last five games, is now just a point short of catching up to Yvon Lambert on the Canadiens’ all-time point leaders rankings with 415 points which is good for the 34th rank.
Martin St-Louis has already confirmed that Samuel Montembeault will be back in the net tonight, he has started four games against Carolina during his career and has a 0-3-1 record, a 3.87 GAA, and a .897 SP. Jake Allen has a much better record against the Hurricanes (3-4-1, 2.86 GAA, and a .915 SP) but he started and won the last game in which he did rather well, not playing him tonight is smart, it means he left a positive impression in potential trading partners’ mind (or so hopes Kent Hughes).
Trades are happening left, right, and center in the league right now, but no movement yet from Kent Hughes. To be honest, I do not expect a great deal to happen before Friday’s trade deadline. That being said, Hughes has managed to surprise us in the past so who knows…Unloading Allen would be great progress, but he has done very little this season to convince a contender that he could be useful to them.
The puck drop is set for 7:00 PM and after the game, the Canadiens will head back home to host the Maple Leafs on Saturday at the Bell Centre.
