In a game the Flyers absolutely had to win in order to end a seven-game slide and potentially stay alive in the Eastern Conference playoff chase, they instead had another debacle. The Flyers lost to the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre, 9-3, and are now winless in their last eight games. Both the New York Islanders and Washington Capitals won their games.

The Flyers trailed, 1-0, after the first period. Disaster struck in the second period as the Canadiens racked up five unanswered goals. The third period was strictly garbage time, with the two teams trading off three meaningless goals apiece in a game that was already decided.

Juraj Slafkovsky compiled his first NHL hat trick for Montreal. Christian Dvorak (returning from a torn pectoral muscle) and Brendan Gallagher scored two goals apiece. Josh Anderson and Joel Armia finished with one goal apiece. John Harrs had three assists by 15:27 of the second period.

Ryan Poehling, Joel Farabee and Erik Johnson (originally credited to Poehling) scored one goal apiece for the Flyers in the third period. Owen Tippett assisted on the first and third goals. Jamie Drysdale finished the night at minus-six. while partner Nick Seeler was minus-five.

Samuel Ersson (five goals allowed on 16 shots) played 32:42 before he was pulled. Ivan Fedotov played the remainder of the game, stopping 10 of 14 shots in 26:48. Samuel Montembeault earned the win with 32 saves on 35 shots.
