Quick Hits: April 18, 2024
1) The Flyers held Exit Day player interviews on Wednesday, including a three-hour media availability session that went player by player. It's a lot to absorb. Today for PhiladelphiaFlyers.com, I wrote a five takeaways article:

2) On Friday, starting at 11 a.m., general manager Danny Briere and head coach John Tortorella will have separate media availability sessions. Look for a takeaways article on Friday evening or Saturday morning.
3) The Flyers have signed prospect Massimo Rizzo, fresh off recovering sufficiently from injury to help Denver win the Frozen Four championship, to a two-year entry-level contract. The contract will kick in for the 2024-25 season. I will have an article on Rizzo, the Flyers' prospects in the CHL playoffs, the Phantoms and more come next week.
4) On Wednesday, after completing Exit Day, the Flyers assigned two forwards -- Bobby Brink and Olle Lycksell -- and two defensemen -- Ronnie Attard and Adam Ginning -- to the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms. With three regular season games remaining, the Phantoms magic number to clinch a Calder Cup playoff spot is down to one. Even if the Phantoms go 0-2-1 this weekend OR if the Springfield Thunderbirds go 1-0-1 in their final two games, Ian Laperriere's club will make the best-of-three first preliminary round of the playoffs. Last year, the Phantoms lost in three games -- including a late double-OT loss in Game 2 -- to the Charlotte Checkers in the opening round.
On a related note, I have heard that a contract extension announcement is forthcoming for Laperriere to remain on as the Phantoms head coach.
5) Happy birthday wishes go out today to Flyers Alumni Scott Hartnell (age 42) and Dan Kordic (age 53).
