Lucas Raymond has been named an alternate captain for team Sweden this year. This has definitely been a good year for the former 4th overall pick who eclipsed the 30 goal mark and seemed to take a step forward in his NHL career.

This has to be a great honor for the young winger. I was surprised to see Raymond playing due to the insurance issues Seider had. It’s obvious that wasn’t a hold up in this case. It makes me wonder if there may be the structure of a contract written and an agreed upon amount for purposes of insurance. This is, obviously, something that would be nearly impossible to know for sure unless you were in the room.

Raymond joins 3 other Wings players (Alex Lyon, Jeff Petry, Olli Maatta) 1 prospect (Trey Augustine) and 2 staff members (Derek LaLonde and Alex Westlund) for the tournament. Larkin was originally slated to play for team USA but an undisclosed injury sent him home early.

Who makes the biggest changes?

We’re heading into some of the “dog days” of hockey news. One question that continues to swirl about as I continue to deep dive Cap Friendly is that there are teams that may have to give up a player of some significance. I’d love to hear back from you where you think the biggest changes will happen. There seems to be no end to the speculation of “the core 4” era coming to an end in Toronto.

Tampa Bay has 16 players signed with an estimated 12m in cap space. Stamkos is a UFA so even a team friendly deal could eat up a bit of that space. Vegas has 20 players signed but only 897k in space. It will be interesting to see what happens for sure.
