Will The Sabres Buyout Jeff Skinner?

The Buffalo Sabres have been a team of potential for the last couple seasons, but they took a step back last season and that cost Don Granato his job. The club has brought in Lindy Ruff to get them over the hump and snap their long playoff drought, and it is expected that GM Kevyn Adams is going to be busy trying to improve the depth of the roster.

One move that may be considered is buying out veteran winger Jeff Skinner. Skinner has three years left at $9 million and has a no-movement clause on his deal. The 32-year-old Toronto native is likely not going to waive his NMC, but a buyout would represent a departure from the Sabres usual practices.

If they do go the buyout route, the Sabres would clear $7.5 million in cap space this upcoming season, which could be used to improve their bottom-six or replace Skinner with a younger, more physical player.

Buffalo could be a very busy team this summer, including trading a few of their prospects or their 2024 first rounder for immediate help.
