The San Jose Sharks announced yesterday that they’ve signed forward Will Smith to a three-year, entry-level contract.
Smith was selected fourth overall by the Sharks in last year’s NHL entry draft. This season, the forward scored 25 goals and 71 points in just 41 NCAA games with Boston College. As of now, Smith stands as the Sharks’ undisputed top prospect (a title he’ll realistically only hold until this year’s draft, however).
In signing his ELC, Smith could end up cracking the Sharks’ roster right out of training camp. He’s poised to be one of the Sharks’ best pieces to build around long-term, and Smith, alongside Macklin Celebrini, are two of the players who will provide some hope for a brighter and more successful future.
