Quick Hits: June 27, 2024
The Flyers contingent, like clubs leaguewide, have arrived in Las Vegas for the 2024 NHL Draft. I will post a daily recap blog all Draft picks and any NHL roster moves. So far, as it often the case, there's plenty of talk among clubs, including Philly, but most are finding it hard so far to bring trades to completion.
The asks are inflated, the offers on players/assets of interest are too low as GMs hope to catch a colleague in desperation mode. In all likelihood there will be trades made this weekend, but the percentage that get consummated relative to the percentage that get proposed is quite low. Also, the percentage of exaggerated rumors (and worse, flat out, bad information with no basis in reality) shoots sky high. Be very careful with whom and what you believe before a credible source puts it out as a done deal.
This much I know for certain: The Flyers are open to discussing both NHL moves that would bring back players who fit both a current and multi-year time table, and have interest in leveraging assets (two first rounders this year, two first rounders next year, three second-round picks over the 2024 and 2025 Drafts) if they can draft prospects they like in certain Draft ranges. This includes an early first-round possibility. So far, it's been easier said than done. However, there's all of today, Draft day tomorrow and Day 2 of the Draft on Sunday to see if something fruitful results.
In the meantime, the Flyers' Daniel Briere is willing to initiate -- or listen to -- various proposals. What, if anything, becomes a reality remains to be seen. Some of the discussions allegedly date back to at least January in various incarnations. So we'll see what, if anything, happens.
