Quick Hits: July 16, 2024

1) Veteran Flyers winger Garnet Hathaway spoke yesterday via Zoom with members of the local media. Hathaway discussed his recent two-year contract extension, his on-ice chemistry with regular linemate Ryan Poehling, his understanding of his role on the team and more. Look for a synopsis article on PhiladelphiaFlyers.com. Video of the 10-minute session is below.

2) I am in the middle of doing a two-part "Prospect Directory" series on PhiladelphiaFlyers.com this week. In Part 1, I looked at the players the Flyers drafted in the 2023 and 2024 NHL Drafts and listed the key events and dates on the 2024-25 scouting calendar to track both already-drafted players and candidates for the 2025 Draft.

Part 2 will look at players in the Flyers development system who were drafted prior to the 2023 Draft and whose rights are held by the Flyers. Those who are in the NHL or whose rights no longer belong to the Flyers are not included.

3) The "39 Things to Know about Matvei Michkov" article is also slated to run on the Flyers' official website within the next few days. The article itself was completed over the weekend.

4) July 16 Flyers Alumni birthday: Jay Rosehill (1985).

5) Today in Flyers History: July 16

* 1998: The Flyers sign veteran goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck as an unrestricted free agent to a two-year contract. The same day the Flyers sign 1995 sixth-round pick Dmitri Tertyshny to an entry-level contract. Tertyshny proves to be a pleasant surprise in training camp and earns a spot on the NHL team under head coach Roger Neilson.

* 2015: The Flyers sign 2015 first-round (24th overall) pick Travis Konecny to an entry-level contract. The same day, the team re-signs unrestricted free agents defenseman Michael Del Zotto to a two-year contract.

* 2017: The Flyers trade center/winger Nick Cousins and the rights to collegiate goaltender prospect Merrick Madsen to the Coyotes for a 2018 fifth-round pick and the rights to collegiate forward prospect Brendan Warren.
