RFA Summer Questions: Bridge Or Long-Term For Seth Jarvis

The only remaining drama to be had over the next five weeks before clubs assemble for training camp are a number of young restricted free agents who did not have arbitration rights and are looking for new deals.

We will look at a number of them over the next few days, and the next on the list is Carolina’s Seth Jarvis.

Jarvis has over 200 games of NHL experience and is just 22. After scoring in the teens his first couple seasons, he posted a career-high 33 goals last season, finishing second in team scoring behind only Sebastian Aho.

The Hurricanes lost some significant firepower in Teuvo Teravainen, Jake Guentzel, Evgeny Kuznetsov, and Brady Skjei this summer, and really did not adequately replace it in free agency, which makes getting Jarvis secured and avoiding a holdout a priority. The club has just over $6 million in cap space, which might not be enough to get an eight-year done, but if they go bridge and the youngster continues to improve, they will pay more in the long run.

What will new GM Eric Tulsky do?
