In his 14 years as owner of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Jeff Vinik has seen the franchise rise to become one of the elite clubs in the NHL. That includes three straight Eastern Conference championships from 2020 to 2022 and back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2019-20 and 2020-21.

Now, per Elliotte Friedman, Vinik is closing in on a franchise sale to investor Doug Ostrover for close to $2 billion. Keep in mind that Vinik bought the Lightning for $170 million back in 2010. Talk about turning a profit: the mind boggles at this one.

It's not a done deal yet. However, if and whe completed, the rumored sale to Ostover would by far become the most lucrative in NHL history. There are still hoops to jump through first but the momentum is there.
