Adam Fox ranked as 8th best NHL D-man by NHL.com, woof bad at best

There are takes. There are bad takes. Then there are really, really, really bad takes. Add a few more reallys to the prior sentence and maybe you are close to the NHL.com list of Top-20 defensemen. I am not sure what they were doing when they came up with this list, but to have Adam Fox at eight is embarrassing on so many levels that it defies the mind and almost defies description.

If you wanted to say Cale Makar and maybe Roman Josi were ahead of Fox based on their production, and especially in the case of Josi, his career production and continued excellence to date I could buy that. I am a big Quinn Hughes fan, but on my side of the ice, give me Fox every day of the week. Victor Hedman turned back the clock last year after a poor 2022-23 campaign, but as good as he is, I still would take Fox over him right now.

This is the blurb on Fox in the NHL.com rankings page:

Fox finished sixth among defensemen with 73 points (17 goals, 56 assists) in 72 games last season and was tied for fourth with 33 power-play points while averaging 23:27 of ice time per game. The 26-year-old led Rangers defensemen with 137 shots on goal and five game-winning goals, was second on the team with a plus-21 rating behind Ryan Lindgren (plus-22) and third with 123 blocked shots. Fox finished fourth in Norris voting last season and is a two-time finalist, having won the award in 2020-21.

If you need more evidence as to how bad this ranking of Fox is, look at this tweet. His production was impacted by the 10 games he missed and the fact he took a bit of time to regain his form. Despite this, he tallied 73 points in 72 games, putting him 80+ point pace while playing top pair minutes.

All in all, an embarrassing effort here.
