Quick Hits: September 6, 2024

1) Flyers Daily: On Friday's edition of Flyers Daily, we are one week away from the Rookie Series in Allentown between the Flyers Rookie Camp attendees and their New York Rangers counterparts. Host Jason Myrtetus looks ahead to that, as well as projecting Matvei Michkov's preseason usage and volume of games played. Jason also looks at the goalie depth chart battle between Samuel Ersson and Ivan Fedotov, the mindset that Joel Farabee needs to take to establish himself once and for all as a top-six forward in in head coach John Tortorella's usage plan, and more.

2) With the KHL regular season now underway and Flyers rookie camp beginning next Wednesday, goaltending prospect is neither in North America getting ready for camp, nor on any KHL team's roster. Kolosov doesn't have any leverage to speak of.

The Flyers will not loan him to a KHL team and burn the second year of his entry-level contract (they'd toll a year on his contract) if he were to jump without permission. There isn't enough trade value from his very limited track record for NHL teams to clamor for his rights. And while he's shown he is an above-average KHL goalie at a young age, Kolosov is not leaps and bounds ahead of alternate options to the point where clubs in that league are trying to entice him to jump his NHL contract and deal with whatever sanctions would follow from the IIHF.

In the meantime, 25-year-old Finnish goalie Eetu Makiniemi is getting for a camp tryout with the Flyers in hopes of a two-way contract that would enable him to challenge Cal Petersen for playing time in lieu of Kolosov.

3) Flyers 2024 sixth-round pick ilya Pautov is off to a very fast start in the MHL (Russia's junior circuit). The 18-year-old right winger has collected four points (two goals, two assists) in the first two games of the regular season for CSKA (Red Army) junior. Pautov scored the game-winning goal in overtime on Thursday. Small but shifty and creative, Pautov is a strictly offensive-minded prospect at this early stage of his development but an intriguing dark horse prospect.

4) Sept 6 Flyers Alumni birthday: Bill Root (1959)

5) Today in Flyers History: On September 6, the Flyers traded recent draft pick Alexander Selivanov's right to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a 1995 fourth-round pick (Radovan Somik).
