Wings vs. Penguins

Follow me on Twitter

Pitt’s defense and goaltending gave Detroit something they were lacking for the first period and much of the game. Defense and goaltending. This was a painful watch with just one goal (Raymond) vs 5 goals (1 EN) by Pittsburgh. Detroit wasn’t ready, but had their top line out there. Just not their night. Brief summary as the Buffalo game is going simultaneously. Let me know your thoughts. It’s just the preseason, but this mixed squad against a team other than Chicago just looked terrible (opinion). Kasper nearly netted a beauty on a self created opportunity. Larkin’s pass to Raymond went net front on the power play and Razor slammed it home. Rush seemed evident, but Pittsburgh just looked like they wanted it more for more for the game.

1st Period Detroit goals:

Wings fail to score on 3 power plays, but with 2:25 left Pitt scores making it 1-0. Pittsburgh D more than ready for this one and now the power play has them up at the end of the first.

Shots: 6-5 PITT
Score: 1-0 PITT

2nd Period Detroit goals:

The second period saw Detroit giving up a short handed goal in the first 5 mins, putting the Pens up 2-0. It’s preseason, etc, but Pitt clearly seems to be more engaged with players that care a lot more about getting something done. 2-0 Pitt

At 9:31 Detroit finally broke through as Larkin sent a cross crease pass to Raymond who was on his off wing and sent a one timer in for the first Wings tally of the game. Kane w 2nd apple. 2-1. *good movement on that power play.

*Wings seem to have woken up, much better sustained pressure. Kasper had a nice move but unable to finish on a beautiful opportunity he created.

Shots: 20-11 DET
Score: 2-1 PITT

3rd Period Detroit goals:

Just 41 second into the 3rd, Detroit was again pinned down in their own zone and Pitt made them pay. 3-1 Pitt

Cossa let in his second of the period at 10:33 as Pitt goes up 4-1.

With 1:51 left Pitt got an empty net goal. 5-1

Shots: 23-22 Wings
Score: 5-1 Pitt

Wings vs. Buffalo

Having watched a tough Pittsburgh game, I was able to tune in for Overtime in Buffalo. The Sabres won with 12 seconds left but looking at shots on goal, 41-21 in favor of Buffalo, this doesn’t seem like it should have been as close as it was.

I missed out on this one, let me know your thoughts. I did see Soderblom’s impressive SHG. Tough night x 2 for Detroit fans

1st Period Detroit goals:

It looks like this year’s first rounder got his first preseason goal. At just 1:15 Michael Brandsegg-Nygard after he tapped home a pass cruising down the middle with Snivley to his left on a 2 on 1. 1-0 DET

Sabres score at 5:25 and 10:06 making it 2-1 near the end of the first. Could be a long double game night.

Shots: 15-8 BUF
Score: 2-1 BUF

2nd Period Detroit goals:

No 2nd period Detroit goals

Shots: 22-14 BUF
Score: 2-1 BUF

3rd Period Detroit goals:

Just a couple of minutes into the 3rd Soderblom tied the score with a short handed goal. 2-2 Impressive to see the big man win a foot race with 3 Sabres behind him as he taps in the shorty.

At 8:07 Wings take the lead with a goal from Lagesson who nearly went coast to coast and wristed a shot in. 3-2 DET

Sabres tied it up with their own shorty at 13:57. 3-3

Shots: 35-19 BUF
Score: 3-3

Overtime:

In the final minute of OT, Sabres win on a power play. 4-3

Shots: 41-21 BUF
Score: 4-3 BUF
